     Sri Lanka Team Manager Senanayake gets Long – Term Contract

sri Lanka cricket team manager Charith Senanayake has been offered a one-year full-time contract by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC). Senanayake was appointed the Sri Lanka Team Manager for the tour of Australia in January taking over from former Sri Lanka skipper Anura Tennekoon who was removed after last year’s South Africa tour when SLC decided to give Sri Lanka’s team a complete overhaul by changing captain, coach, selectors and the manager following a string of defeats.Following a successful Commonwealth Bank Series in Australia and Asia Cup in Bangladesh Senanayake’s position was decided to be made a long term one by SLC which offered him the contract.Senanayake was first appointed to the post of Sri Lanka team manager in 2008. Senanayake, 49, played three Tests against New Zealand on the 1991 tour, and seven ODIS in 1990 and 91 with moderate success.Senanayake who is also a Marketing expert served Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) as the Head of Marketing for three years till last year, when the interim committee headed by D.S. de Silva did not renew his contract.Senanayake’s integrity and skill as an official is unquestioned and he interestingly began his first term as Sri Lanka’s team Manager also under strange circumstances.he was working in Kenya and was in Sri Lanka on holiday when he was offered the job in 2008 when the then Sports Minister Gamini Lokuge stopped Hashan Tillekratne, who had been appointed to the post by SLC, and asked them to nominate someone else, on the eve of starting a tour against India.Senanayake will be offered a monthly salary of Rs. 125,000 in addition to a SLC maintained car and a monthly fuel allowance of 150 litres. He will also receive a perdiem allowance of 75 US dollars for an outbound tour and 50 US dollars for an inbound tour.
